Oh My Gosh. I have no words to describe this book.
Albert has created artwork!
The Hazel Wood follows a characters named Alice who has spent most of her life on the road, always one step ahead of bad luck that seems to follow her and her mother. But then Alice's grandmother, an author of a book of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on an estate called the Hazel Wood. Alice soon finds out how bad her bad luck can get.
Her mother, Ella, is stolen away from her by a figure who claims to come from the world where the fairy tales are set. Alice's only clue, when she tries to find her mother, is the message: stay away from the Hazel Wood.
In order to rescue her mother, Alice must venture to Hazel Wood and then into the world where the fairy tales began.
When I first read what The Hazel Wood is about I thought it would be something I would enjoy. I have never heard of a storyline that is similar to this, so I thought I would give it a read and see how this story ends.
Man did I underestimate how much I would love this book!
I loved it that much I read it in 2 days (and I am not joking!). To read a book in 2 days that is about 360 pages is usually impossible for me to do. This means The Hazel Wood was absolutely amazing! I was having trouble putting the book down, especially on the second day I was reading it. I just couldn't! I found I was reading through the book very quickly.
I do wish it was longer. The story was perfect on its own, but I wish that there was more of the book to read. I don't want it to finish! I am hoping that Albert decides to write a sequel or another book that is based around this world. I am keen to find out more about this world.
(UPDATE: There is a sequel coming out in 2019!!)
I do have to add that I am glad I read this before there is any hype. Often when a book is surrounded by so much hype, it can get a persons hopes up about a book and then when they read it they get let down because it wasn't as good as they thought it would be. This happened to me when I read Scythe by Neal Shusterman (which I have reviewed!).
I don't know what else to add.
This is my favourite books of 2018 and don't know how I am going to start reading another book after I finished this. I am going to be in a book hanger for a little bit.
Obviously rated this book 5 out of 5 stars, nothing to criticise about the book!
Recommend this book to everyone!!
Happy reading
