If you have not heard of this book then where have you been?!

There has been so much hype and praise from other reviewers about Scythe and I now understand why.

So if you don't know what this book is about because you have been living under a rock, then Scythe, being set in a world where death is the only thing the everyone can control, follows 2 young scythe apprentices. A scythe is the only person who is allowed to glean (essentially kill someone) as they have to keep the population at a stable number. These 2 apprentices, Citra and Rowan, were chosen and they have no choice but to learn the art of killing. But then... they were told that one of then will have to glean the other.

Like how interesting does that sound? I love how unique this concept is.

Because of all this hype and praise that has been surrounding this book for a while, I feel like I was not about to enjoy it as much as I could have. So many people gave this book amazing reviews and because of that I went into it thinking that it was going to be absolutely amazing. Don't get me wrong Scythe was amazing and I did love it, but I feel like all this is the reason why I gave it a slightly lower review than I would have given it.

I suggest for anyone who is picking up this book, because of all the positive reviews and hype, that you go into it not thinking about any of that and any high hopes you might have. If you do this then you will enjoy the book much more. I think I am going to do that with the sequel Thunderhead (yes! there is a second book!!)

You just have to read it!

Shusterman has a good way, through his writing, of making the readers hate the characters you are meant to hate and love those you are meant to love. Trying not to give away any spoilers, Shusterman does a good job of making you hate a few of the bad characters and even feel sympathetic towards a bad guy. I am not going to say much more about that unless you want spoilers, which I don't want to do.

I feel like Scythe is a build up to something much bigger and better that is going to happen in Thunderhead.

I don't actually know what Thunderhead is about, but I do know I am excited to pick it up.

I gave Scythe a 4.5 out of 5 stars rating

I recommend this book to everyone!

Happy reading
