I loved re-reading this! It is one of the first King novels I read when I started getting into horror.
If you somehow don't know what Carrie is about, then here is the synopsis:
Carrie may be picked on by her classmates, but she has a gift. She can move things with her mind. Doors lock. Candles fall. This is her power and her problem.
Then, an act of kindness, as spontaneous as the vicious taunts of her classmates, offers Carrie a chance to be normal... until an unexpected cruelty turns her gift into a weapon of horror and destruction that no one will ever forget.
For anyone who wants to start reading King novels, I feel like this book would be a good start. It is short, beautifully written, and you start to get a taste for the twisted way King writes.
I've always loved how King can put a dark twist on something that can relate to us. In Carrie, King puts his dark twist on bullying and the affects it can have. Instead of seeing Carrie as the monster, you feel empathetic towards her. You are made to feel hate towards the bullies.
This book is set out much differently than you would typically see. So the book is split up into 3 parts, but the parts aren't split into chapters (well it isn't for my edition of the book anyway). Each part is a continuous section, but they are quick reads.
King also includes extracts from books and newspapers, even extracts from interviews. I thought this was a good addition to the story. You get to see certain things from different perspectives and get more information about Carrie's ability.
Overall I enjoyed this read, again.
I rated it 5 out of 5 stars.
Highly recommend for anyone wanting to get into King's work or into horror.
Happy Reading!
