Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

I have mixed feelings about this book. I didn't so much as enjoy the first say 200 pages but I did like the last 100 or so...

I feel like a lot of my opinions are going to be negative towards Stalking Jack the Ripper, but in the end it was a good story.

Stalking Jack the Ripper follows a young girl named Audrey Rose. She is the daughter of a lord and lives the life of wealth and privilege. But Audrey Rose lives a secret and forbidden life, often slipping away to her Uncle's laboratory to study forensic medicine. When her work starts to drag Audrey into the investigation of a serial killer she searches for answers to uncover who Jack the Ripper may be.

Considering this is my first Jack the Ripper book I thought I would really enjoy it. I had been hearing nothing but good things about it but it wasn't until I started reading it and slowing getting through the chapters that I realised I am not going to like this as much as I had hoped.

To begin with I did not like the writing. It was too slow paced for me. I felt like at times it was hard to read and get through a chapter. If you know me, and I may have mentioned this in another review, I don't like when the writing is slow. It makes me bored and want to put the book down. I do have to admit that I was about to DNF this book. The only reason why I didn't was because I wanted to see how it ended. In order to do that I had to power through it by forcing myself to read it.

I was finding that I could only read about 50 pages at a time without getting bored. If I continued over I would find that I was losing interest and couldn't continue reading. So in order to finish it I did have to set myself about 50 pages each time I sat down to read. This wasn't the case for the last 100 pages though. It was the only part of the book I enjoyed and found I got through them pretty quickly.

I did find the ending to be somewhat predictable. From the beginning I had my suspicions of who Jack the Ripper might be and it was out of two characters. As more of the evidence pointed towards one, I found it to be to obvious, that Maniscalco was trying to point the audience into believing that this character was the Ripper where the other one was not. This led me to believe that the other character was the Ripper.

I didn't like how obvious it was, but regardless I still liked the ending.

Finding a rating for Stalking Jack the Ripper was hard. Often when I give ratings I start reading the book with a 5 star and then every time I find a flaw or something I didn't like I would decrease the rating.

I am giving this book a 3 out of 5 star rating. I know there were many things I didn't like and was leaning towards a 2, but the ending boosted it to a 3.

I don't know if I will change it later on Goodreads though, we will see.

Thank you for reading

And happy reading!
