Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

This book way AMAZING!!

For those who have not watched the movie or have never heard about this book then here is the synopsis:

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of peculiar photographs. It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As the story opens, a horrific tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children.

As Jacob explores its decaying bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear the Miss Peregrine's children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow - impossible though it seems - they may still be alive.

I cannot believe I did not pick up this book sooner. It had been recommended to my by a friend who also enjoyed it but in the end I never did pick it up. I am glad I finally did though because I loved it so much.

What made me want to pick it up, besides from the recommendation, was watching the movie. I did watch the movie before I read the book, something I usually don't do. But I watched the movie because I was interested to see what it was about. In the end I did really enjoy the movie and turned me to wanting to pick up the books.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is the first book in the Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children trilogy. There are 2 more books for me to read and I think I will definitely pick up the second book, we will see about the third book.

I was happy with the way the first book set out everything for the coming books. I liked seeing how the world works and discovering new things along with Jacob. I am interested to see how the second book continues with the story.

There were a few changes that was made in the movie adaptation that I wasn't happy about. For example, in the book Emma wields fire but in the movie Emma wields air and wind. I did not like that they changed this, I think it was unnecessary. They should have kept Emma the same as she is in the book.

I don't have much to critique, except maybe the chapter lengths. It is roughly 350 pages long but it only has 11 chapters. Each chapter was long, one of them was like 60 pages long. I feel like the chapters could have been split up into smaller chapters.

Overall I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

I recommend that everyone should go and pick up this trilogy.

Happy reading!
