Eliza And Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

For someone who doesn't read a lot of romance and pretty much hates the genre, I genuinely enjoyed this book.

For those of who who have not heard of this book before then here is the synoposis:

In the real world, Eliza Mirk is shy, weird, and friendless. Online, she's LadyConstellation, the anonymous creator of the wildly popular webcomic Monstrous Sea. Eliza can't imagine enjoying the real world as much as she loves the online one, and she has no desire to try.

Then Wallace Warland, Monstrous Sea's biggest fanfiction writer, transfers to her school. Wallace thinks Eliza is just another fan, and as he draws her our of her shell, she begins to wonder if a life offline might be worthwhile.

But when Eliza's secret is accidentally shared with the world, everything she has built - her story, her relationship with Wallace, and ever her sanity - begins to fall apart.

I decided to pick up this book because I thought it would be a interesting read. And don't get me wrong I did find it interesting and I quite enjoyed seeing what happens to Eliza.

The more I read Eliza And Her Monsters the more I started to like Eliza as a character. I found her to be one of the characters I could relate to from her social side of things, although she is a little more antisocial than I am.

BUT I hated... well hate is a strong word, more like very disliked... Wallace. I found his character to be annoying. Like very annoying. Normally I don't hate on characters but there was just something about Wallace that made me not care about him.

I haven't read many books that deal with any mental health issues. This is one of the first books where I have read about it. But I felt like the book didn't do a good job with dealing with depression, anxiety and suicide. I feel like Zappia skimmed over most a lot of what I felt like should have been important. She could definitely have expanded more on the mental illness side of the book than the romance.

Apart from that I very much enjoyed the read.

Overall I did rate this book 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I recommend it to any romance lovers.

Happy Reading!
